What does Quay mean?

Quay is pronounced as “key” and according to Answers.com it means:

A wharf or reinforced bank where ships are loaded or unloaded.

How did I come to know about this? Well, there is a Quay Lounge & Bar in Chowpatty. While looking that up on Burrp!, I got curious as to what does its name mean.
