We finally completed the move of the burrp! servers to the NetMagic Solutions hosting facility last night. I had announced on this blog about 2 months ago that we were thinking of moving our servers to a local hosting service.
What was my experience like? It was somewhat frustrating because of the time it took to setup the servers. For my US hosting provider, just an email would do the job. And the turnaround time would be a day. The NMS turnaround time was quite longer and would be interspersed with phone calls that followed every time we emailed them. Not exactly my way of doing things. So anyway, once the servers were setup we moved our stuff onto it quite smoothly.
For any new Indian startup, I’d advise you to stick to the US hosting until you absolutely HAVE to move to India due to growing traffic or for legal reasons. But once you decide to move to a local hosting, then buffer in enough time for the move.
